Conditions are Fuel or Flames - You Choose
It's raining today.
That means three things:
- My dogs are likely making stinkies in the house as I write this post from Starbucks.
- You're running to and from your car today. Not me, I watched that episode of Mythbusters, thank you very much.
- We are all asking ourselves, "Do I really need to do {that thing}?" today.
The thing is numerous. Walk my daily 10k steps, eat good food instead of comfort treats, and refrain from pretending I'm too sick to take my kid who sucks at soccer to soccer practice.
Conditions change because conditions always change. That's why they're called conditions; they're conditional, like a cat's love.
Can I share the gospel from my borax box?
Conditions only matter as much as you decide they do.
Why else have those born with silver spoons of Nutella-flavored caviar in their mouth ended up in rehab, in abusive relationships, and on the streets?
While others, who have had tremendous injustice done to them, who've been born ON the streets, have been abused, and damn near forsaken by whoever is up there doing the forsaking, have contributed worlds of good beyond what we think a human could ever do.
One small example:
How likely is it that a girl of color born into extreme poverty in Mississippi will succeed in America? What about being born before segregation? Add on to that- being raised by an abusive grandmother. Then she's left unprotected and sexually abused by three family members, starting when she was 9 years old?
Now, add pregnancy at 14 years old. It's a boy.
This child, born unto a child, passes away shortly after.
Take just SOME of these conditions into consideration.
What chances do you give this girl even to make it to adulthood, let alone some form of relief and success in her life, given these conditions?
Some of you may already know this story.
It's Oprah Winfrey.
We all have our story. Sometimes the stories of others remind us that our problems aren't so much to solve after all, and that we aren't alone in our tragedies.
I know I have heavy things, I also know that my biggest problem is thinking I have problems I can't handle. Because I 100% can handle them.
Maybe we aren't so different, and both our brains, whose greatest wish is to serve us, have magnified whatever problem is in front of us to solve it, and in the meantime, forgotten we are humans, the silliest of creatures, who lose sight of the big picture when the blinders of problems are on us.
By all means, solve your problems, do what you gotta do, BUT the circumstances only matter as much as you decide they do.
Beyond driving a little slower or sunbathing, is the rain a condition we need to change our goals and progress for? Well, that's up to you.
The circumstances only matter as much as you decide they do.
Have fun,
