A Reply to a Client About Craving.
Below is a response I sent to a client when they brought up sugar cravings they experienced when they got stressed out.

You mention stress triggering the craving. I'm wondering, IS IT POSSIBLE that the sugar/processed food is a road you take to get where you're really craving? Certainty/freedom from worry comes from slipping into an old pattern, which will guarantee you feel less stressed.
I drank diet cokes - not because I liked them (I thought I did) but because soda was a treat when I was young. Up to a few weeks ago, I would drink them to signal the end of work and the beginning of "chill on the couch and watch Star Wars." - It was a signal to change my state of mind and relax.
Once I started replacing them with Cold Plunge + Walk Charlie (my dog) at night- my sleep improved, my brain got less foggy, and my headaches disappeared. PLUS I got another few moments with Charlie- which I will not regret. I no longer want Diet Coke. I never did.
I wanted to FEEL DIFFERENT.
The (diet coke/alcohol/sugar) was a road I KNEW that I could take to get there.
Does some of this resonate?"
